Why I don't hire a photographer for client content

Scheduling a photoshoot for a landscaping business means finding a day when the weather cooperates, a project that looks good at that moment, and an owner who clears three hours to be there. In April through September, exactly when the calendar is fullest.

Most landscapers don't have that time. And even if the shoot happens, the content goes live two months later, by which point the season has already moved on.

That's why I use AI instead of a photographer for most client content.

What AI does and doesn't do

Important to be clear: this doesn't replace proof. Before-and-after photos of real projects, testimonials, work videos — that material simply comes from the client, usually collected via WhatsApp in the first days of a project. That is, and stays, the proof that sells.

Where AI comes in: turning those raw photos and that material into something that looks professional in an ad. Colour correction, backgrounds, different formats for Meta, variations to test what lands. Work that with a traditional shoot would need a separate editor and another week.

Why this is a deliberate choice, not a cost cut

A shoot with a good photographer quickly runs to eight hundred to fifteen hundred euros a day, plus the landscaper's own time. That budget now goes into ad spend instead of a shoot that feels outdated again after a couple of months.

Faster too: where planning, running and editing a shoot takes weeks, AI has usable content ready within days. In a sector where the season decides whether something is still relevant, that speed is worth more than one extra polished photo.

Where I stay critical

Not every use of AI imagery works well for this sector. I don't use fully generated "example gardens" that don't exist. A landscaper sells his own work, not a fictional garden an algorithm dreamed up. That would undercut everything that makes the sector credible.

The line I hold: AI improves and processes what's already there. It doesn't invent what isn't. The moment that distinction disappears, you lose the trust you're trying to build with good content in the first place.

What this delivers for a client

Content that goes live within the season instead of after it. No half a day of production time during the busiest weeks of the year. And a budget that goes toward reach instead of a shoot that feels dated again after two months.
